Yep, that's the whole autoscan. I'm not worried about any of the present faults. My main concern is that I can only connect to 01 and 46. I'm used to seeing inter-network communication faults when I can't connect to this many modules. I originally scanned it to check why the airbag light is on. That's the only warning illuminated on the cluster.

My other issue at hand is that it's been very difficult to find any professional repair info on this thing. I already emailed ErWin AG but they haven't responded. This vehicle was imported through the proper channels into the US. Owner drives it very regularly. I've already unplugged any aftermarket electronics I could find. Could the airbag module be pulling down part of the k-line network?

Have You tried connect manually to all modules that should be installed? Looks like the gateway is down (bad module/no power/wiring issues). What happens, if You try Options/Test in ? K1, K2 and CAN is OK?

Yes, I've manually gone through the list. Even the LT3 commercial stuff. The lead tests fine. Shows K1 and K2 ok, no CAN. This is a 2005, so it won't have CAN diagnostics. 01 and 46 also show two wire communication intact under their respective measuring blocks.

2005. T5's have CAN to diagnostic socket, too. CAN GW is buit-in part of dashboard. CAN wires (diagnostic line) goes straight from diagnostic socket to dash. Pin 6 to T32a (green connector) pin 27 (CAN-H) and pin 14 to T32a pin 28 (CAN-L). No other modules on CAN here.
Check those wires carefully. For continuity and for aftermarket stuff - car alarm, immo hacking device, "all faults eraser" etc.

BTW check Your interface with another CAN car.

The T5/T5.1 (through MY 2010) does have CAN wired to the DLC but it isn't used for regular diagnostics (just development purposes where other CAN bus'es like powertrain are being forwarded onto the diagnostic socket). All diagnostics are K-line only!

A good start is > Options > Test to see if/what the interface sees, considering that you have some communication it's unlikely to be something obvious though. If you've found an aftermarket radio, have you also made sure to unplug not just the radio but also any aftermarket wiring which was retrofitted in the process? If that doesn't help, I would suggest you start by unplugging modules one by one starting with the /ESP. Any module (airbags included) could be pulling down/up the k-line.

A 2005 T5 might have something (I'm not sure what) connected to the CAN pins on the diagnostic socket, but it does not use CAN for diagnostics.

Thanks Uwe. It does have the CAN pins/wires at the DLC, but according to the few diagrams I was able to find, the high and low just tie into a ground/earth in the harness.

Thanks Sebastian. The interface test is showing K1 and K2 being ok. I'm currently disassembling the dash. I've never even seen a T5 in person until this one so it's a little slow going. This thing is heavily accessorized so there could still be aftermarket wiring and whatnot I haven't disabled yet. I'll try unplugging the module but my money is on wiring/aftermarket stuff or the airbag module.

Yeah, they're pretty much non-existent in the US because VW never sold (or certified) them there, so the few that are around are gray market specials brought in on various exemptions.

Check continuity between Pin 7 of the diagnostic socket and the corresponding K-line pin on one of the modules that should talk but doesn't. There should be some kind of "star junction" where the K-lines from the various modules all come together.

Yeah, he has a small dealership so I'm assuming that helped. He also has a 2012 Amarok that I drool over every time I see it.

I have continuity from the DLC to the k line on instrument cluster connector. Fluctuating from .5 - 1.5 ohms.

I know the type of junction you're referring to. Usually a pinch clamp covered with a rubber cap and buried/hidden with a lot of tape cloth. I would kill to know where that is. Probably buried in the main loom somewhere.

Tried unplugging module. No change.

I have a 4 channel scope. Would it help me if I pulled a wave form for you?

What wiring diagram/s do you need for this vehicle mate? I'll get you whatever you need!

I'll take whatever you have! The CAN/k-line diagrams would be the most helpful at this point.

EDIT: Airbag system wiring is also very needed.

[off topic]Wow I googled/'d Amarok and that is a bad ass vehicle. An apparent victim of the ridonkulously still in effect US chicken tax.

/drools too

Alright ill get you CAN/K-line from the diag plug all the way through, aswell as airbag control unit all the way through.

Will post them up for you tomorrow bud.

Hope this helps mate, I've given you drivetrain CAN from J533 and also ALL airbag wiring :)

You're my hero.

I've never met an Australian that I didn't like!

No problems mate! Any other help you need, do ask, this is an Australian vehicle afterall :).

Figured I would update this. Started working on it again. So far I've tried disconnecting the CAN wires from the cluster (green plug) per Martin's advice. Still couldn't connect to the cluster. I then ran a dedicated K wire from pin 7 on the DLC to pin 25 on the blue cluster plug. Still no connection. Tried that with and without the green connector plugged into the cluster. Test command is still showing k1 and k2 ok.

I have a couple clusters of a similar vintage here. Can I plug one in and KOEO for testing purposes without setting any permanent immobilizer codes? Would I need to disconnect the ?

I have tried to connect not immo programmed clusters to another VAG cars for testing and nothing bad happened, "Engine start blocked by immo" fault recorded in only. Everything was fine with immo, when original one cluster connected back. I have not tried to do this with T5, so I can't give You 100% correct answer.

Just for testing:
1) disconnect everything from pin 7 at DLC and press Test button in . Will it still show K1 and K2 ok?
2) connect back all K-lines as per original wiring, disconnect

both

cluster connectors and try to start engine.
3) try to connect manually to address 25
4) try to run Control module finder in address range 01 to 7E (warning - it can take a while :D )

So, I snipped my test wire that was on pin 7 (so it's totally dead) K1 and K2 still show OK.

I'm getting more and more confused.

Nothing connects at all now, which I figured, but test still shows good.

I'm going to reconnnect the original K line now.
